Texas Star Top Gun (Gunner)
Of Mach One

12.5” Tan and White Smooth
12/1/00
Texas Star Braveheart X Windy Hollow Martini

NHC Groundhog

Gunner was retired after the 2004 National trial with a 6th place finish in his over smooth working class. Gunner has earned his stars at Mach One and it was time to let him be the pet he always wants to be. Gunner went home to TX in Feb. of 2005 to live with the Bays, wonderful friends of our family. Gunner came to the Bays as their only pet and their 2 children Bill and Suzanne have kept Gunner on the go, just the way he likes it. I’m not sure who love who more, Gunner loving the Bays or the Bays loving Gunner. Either way, as hard as it was for us to part with our Gunner, one look at how happy he was settled it for us. Click here to see pictures of Gunner and his new family. You never know, you may see old Gunner show up at a TX trial with his new owners for a veteran run on the race track, watch out if he does, he’s in as good of shape as he ever was. Gunner’s story certainly doesn’t end here, it simply begins again. He is still a part of our family and we see him often and we look to his pups to carry on their fathers wonderful accomplishments.

If there is ever a contest for the world’s happiest dog, Gunner could win it paws down. From the day we brought him home his butt/tail never stopped moving. His temperament is truly one in a million. Gunner came to us from Texas Star, a good friend of ours pointed us at this beautiful boy and one look at the picture to the right and we were hooked. From day one he truly was an exemplary puppy, he never put one toe out of line and to this day he tries his best to walk that same narrow line.

Gunner is one of a very few truly smooth terriers, that smooth coat gives rise to a defined structure that never fails to impress the crowd of on-lookers at trials. His huge head and muscles always paint him the picture of a “man’s dog”. If only they knew under those muscles and string head was a true momma boy. Looking beyond the obvious makeup you see a beautiful front end, driving rear and beautiful long neck. On the inside hides a heart of gold and a drive that any terrier would be proud to possess. The minute he touched the race track and dove into a go-to-ground tunnel he started winning and though to him it is quite boring and unnecessary he stood his ground in the conformation ring.

His greatest accomplishment no doubt lies in the hunt field. On his second time on the ground at the age of ten months Gunner earned his NHC to Groundhog and not to any groundhog, a Midwest groundhog and those of you who have hunted the Midwest of Kansas and Missouri know what I’m talking about. He proved himself to be a very capable hunter at a very tender age and never slowed down from there.
