Memphis Belle, Memphis Belle, Memphis Belle and what a belle she truly is. A wonderful tiny little package that can turn any head she passes. This belle of the ball is really quite the Cinderella story. When I first saw Memphis she was a 10 month old ball of hair, it was hard to tell what was lying underneath this “pillow” of a pup. But one look at her and I was hooked, little did I know what a beautiful terrier was underneath.

Hunt, hunt and hunt some more. Memphis was like a machine when it came time to put her in the field. That glazed look encompassed her face as she dove right into an incredible working terrier. Her size is her passport to any earth we encounter and her beautiful substantial head is the driving tool she uses for engagement. Fearless and flexible, what more could you ask for in the field?

Show, win, show, win and win. Thus the story of her conformation career went and continues to go. For an 11.5” terrier pulling off multiple championships and reserves is no small feat. Add that to her “Lakeland” coat, and it becomes an even greater feat; but just give us a “proper” English judge and she’ll do the rest.

As her prefix suggests Memphis comes to us from The Hollow, that tried and true prefix of old. Thanks entirely to the efforts of Jose Rico (conformation and working judge) this line not only helped set the standard for the Jack Russell in the U.S., but also here at Mach One. What breeder wouldn’t want the line and legacy this beautiful terrier brings to the table. The movement, angulation, structure and poise of this terrier are assets to pocket for future generations.

But, with every silver lining there lies a snag. For Memphis, it would turn out to be a big snag. Having been bred twice Memphis has only been able to produce two viable offspring; The Hollow Vanity Fair and The Hollow Cadence. Memphis’ first litter was lost entirely due to a late c-section and her second (a litter of three by Sow’s Ear Max Factor This!), though every possible precaution was taken, resulted in the loss of the third puppy and the very near rupture of her uterus. Needless to say, what was from the beginning a very precious terrier, indeed became a most rare and coveted asset to our line.

Being the resilient terrier she is, Memphis did not let her woes of motherhood slow her down or dampen her spirit. Instead her two very precious offspring; The Hollow Vanity Fair and The Hollow Cadence went onto together to become more successful than two entire litters put together. Both have racked up many championships and reserves, and Vanity shows every bit of her mother’s intensity in the field. Their first time together in brood bitch saw them walk out with a best and a reserve best family placement. Not too bad for two pups from the same litter.

Cadence (one of the nicest Max Factor This! Sons out there) has produced several lovely litters, and we are very anxiously awaiting the future of these pups. Vanity too will no doubt follow in the footsteps of her sire and dam and her grand dam, Lost Acres Revlon. The future for Memphis’ pups is no doubt a very bright one and we will try one last time for a viable litter from Memphis, though no promises will be made as to the future placement of these pups. After the success of her previous litter we may have to make room for a few more around here.
