Talon is a legend in his own right, as the only smooth coated Fox Island Crush son he has been the answer to many a breeders prayers. A beautiful smooth coated stud dog that can bring the line and legacy that Fox Island has instilled in this breed for many years without the coat. All that aside he is still our Talon, the sweet boy we came to own by default so to speak from our friends at Texas Star. This pick of the litter went back and forth as payment for stud fee and newest addition at Texas Star, but my eye had fallen on him at a very early age, birth. And so as many things come to pass; so Talon came to join us at Mach One.
As alluring as Talon’s smooth coat is, by far it is not the only quality he possesses that makes him such a fine choice as a stud dog. His gorgeous top-line, driving rear end, incredibly narrow front, long neck and movement that can take your breath away just to name a few, are tantamount to this boys appeal. The icing on this cake is his incredibly sweet demeanor. You always hear breeders speak of their on-going problems with stud dogs not getting along, my stud dogs have always lived in the house together and as of yet never fail to get along even in the most precarious situations. Whether in the ring with other studs or in the field his manners are second to none.
From the word “go” or “you may now enter the ring” Talon was making his mark. Winning puppy championship after puppy championship and his crowning achievement was winning best in the huge class of smooth 6-9 month dog pups at the 2001 JRTCA National Trial. As he moved from the puppy classes into the adult classes his poise and elegance moved with him as did his ability to wow the judges. While the heart of a racer lies deep within him, the long legs do not and as so he had to find his place in the go-to-ground line and when he did he excelled once again.
Talon’s first time in the field was a bit of a comedy. On the ground with much older and seasoned terriers left him quite in the dust and the dark. My mistake turned into his handicap in the field and it was several more times out before he finally put two and two together. But to his credit he never gave up and as a result found his place as an amiable hunter.
For all the things he has accomplished in the ring and out of it the most promising is the puppies he has sired. They have followed in his path and as a result laid the ground work for a promising future of Talon progeny. The Hollow Aspen, The Hollow Snap, Conesauga Baby, Mach One Black Hawk, Mach One Heart of Dixie; just to name a few have all excelled in their fields of conformation, agility, racing and go-to-ground.
Talon’s children and grandchildren are proving to be every bit and better than their sire/grandsire. Three of his newest progeny Texas Star Rhino, Texas Star Rosie and Texas Star Genevieve, out of The Hollow Zena are already leaving their mark with several open terrier wins and a 2nd place showing at the 2004 National Trial. The Hollow Molly Brown out of our own Vanity Fair is growing up to be a beautiful counter part to her Check back with us and Texas Star for a possible repeat of this very successful breeding. The Hollow Molly Brown out of our own Vanity Fair is growing up to be a beautiful counter part to her mother. Check with Jose Rico of The Hollow for her first breeding and progress.
It truly is amazing to watch the impact and mark your dogs leave on the generations and it’s comforting to know that even when they depart this earth they will never fully depart our lives as long as we can look at their progeny and see them looking back at us.
